PALM SPRINGS, Calif., June 5, 2013 — In what some are calling a desperate act of retaliation against the YxYY festival, Yes, the Grammy-winning English prog rock band behind the hit single “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” have announced their first-ever festival, or YESTIVAL, which will take place August 3, 2013 at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ.
While Yes strongly denies that their inaugural YESTIVAL has any connection to YxYY, the sudden timing of their announcement this week only added fuel to the rumors about a rift between the band and YxYY. Insiders with knowledge of the matter claim that Yes planned to make Palm Springs the next stop on their world tour, after a scheduled appearance at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre in Paso Robles on July 6. However, when the band approached YxYY organizers about performing at YxYY, they were apparently met with resistance.
According to sources, YxYY organizers politely declined Yes’s offer, underscoring the unplanned nature of the event, but the band refused to accept that a festival called Yes by Yes Yes would say no to Yes. Following the failed negotiations, attorneys for the band filed a motion with the U.S. District Court of Southern California to block YxYY from using the name yes, but the motion was denied. Days later, Yes announced plans to put on their own yes-themed festival, disavowing any intent to perform at YxYY.
YxYY organizers could not be reached for comment.
